Tips on Picking Granite Countertop Colors
Granite countertops offer classic elegance in a hard, durable surface. It works perfectly in many hardworking areas of your home, including the kitchen, bath, bar area, and outdoor grilling spaces. In addition, granite comes in dozens of color combinations and patterns that makes it easy to fit into any interior design. The problem comes when trying to narrow down your selection from so many granite options. Which one would work best in your home?
Tips for finding your perfect granite
Here are a few tips to help you find the perfect granite countertop color for your home:
Research the options available.
With so many colors, patterns, and options available, it can be difficult to narrow your focus. Doing research up front will help. Look online and in magazines at rooms with granite countertops. Find ones that appeal to you.
You need to think about the edge you want on the granite. Having a rounded edge on top is the standard option that works well in most spaces. For a bit different look, you might go with an angled (chamfered) edge instead. If you want a more traditional or ornate look, the ogee profile is perfect. The T-edge, rounded on both top and bottom is a good choice for a modern space. Here are the many edge styles we offer and the colors we offer.
Gather material samples
The granite you select is going to have to work well with the other materials you are using in the room. You need samples of those materials to take with you to the showroom. For kitchen countertops, for example, you should bring samples of the cabinets, flooring, wall color, and appliance finishes. If you cannot get a physical sample, take a picture instead. Once you have some examples we’ll be happy to work with you in our Showroom.
Visit showrooms
Speaking of our Showroom, Granite is a natural material that can vary greatly from one sample to another. Online shopping is okay to narrow down your options. But, before you make any design choices, you need to see it for yourself. Certain granites do not photograph well because of the two-dimensionality of photography. Visiting showrooms will show you exactly what the granite looks like. Stopping by our Showroom will allow our experts to give you a tour of all the granite options available.
Other Things To Consider
- Lighting can make a big difference when it comes to the way granite looks. In rooms with little natural light, you want a granite that is either lighter in color (white or gold), or has plenty of light-color specks throughout the surface. This will allow the granite’s color and pattern to stand out in low lighting. Darker colors, like blues and blacks, look best in areas that get plenty of natural light. Pendants and track lighting are perfect for the nighttime.
- Granite prices can range widely. Slabs quarried locally are usually lower in cost than those from more distant places. Granite pieces from overseas tend to have the largest sticker price. Rare colors and patterns will have a higher price than the more common ones.
