With so many colors, patterns, and options available, it can be difficult to narrow your focus. Doing research up front will help. Look online and in magazines at rooms with granite countertops. Find ones that appeal to you.

You need to think about the edge you want on the granite. Having a rounded edge on top is the standard option that works well in most spaces. For a bit different look, you might go with an angled (chamfered) edge instead. If you want a more traditional or ornate look, the ogee profile is perfect. Lighting can make a big difference when it comes to the way granite looks. In rooms with little natural light, you want a granite that is either lighter in color (white or gold), or has plenty of light-color specks throughout the surface. This will allow the granite’s color and pattern to stand out in low lighting. Darker colors, like blues and blacks, look best in areas that get plenty of natural light. Pendants and track lighting are perfect for the nighttime.
Granite prices can range widely. Slabs quarried locally are usually lower in cost than those from more distant places. Granite pieces from overseas tend to have the largest sticker price. Rare colors and patterns will have a higher price than the more common ones.
